Route Overview
The Skilled Worker visa is the UK's primary work visa route, replacing the former Tier 2 (General) category. It allows UK employers to hire overseas workers for roles at RQF Level 3 or above. The visa can be granted for up to 5 years initially and leads to settlement after 5 years of continuous residence.
Key Requirements
Applicants must meet specific criteria including a job offer from a licensed sponsor, appropriate skill level (RQF 3 or above), salary thresholds (generally £38,700 or the going rate for the occupation, whichever is higher), English language proficiency (B1 level), and financial maintenance requirements. Certain roles may qualify for shortage occupation discounts or "new entrant" rates.

Skilled Workers can bring their dependants (spouse/partner and children under 18) to the UK. Dependants enjoy full access to work and study, making this an attractive route for families. After 5 years, both the main applicant and dependants may be eligible for settlement, provided they meet the continuous residence requirements.
